57% distrust Milei after Libra scandal
A recent Zuban Córdoba poll found that nearly 58% of Argentinians distrust President Javier Milei following his involvement in the $4.6 billion Libra (CRYPTO:LIBRA) crypto scandal.
The March 12–14 survey of 1,600 respondents revealed that 57.6% disapprove of Milei’s handling of the crisis, while 36% retain trust.
The remaining 6.4% were undecided, marking the first time the polling platform directly addressed the issue.
Zuban Córdoba noted that Milei’s national management approval has steadily declined, dropping from 47.3% in November 2023 to 41.6% in March 2024.
“Fifty-eight percent disapprove of Javier Milei’s management. Negativity increases slowly but steadily and seems to find no ceiling,” the firm stated.
Contradictory data emerged from other polls.
A University of San Andrés survey (March 11–20, 1,020 respondents) reported Milei’s approval at 45%, while Morning Consult’s February 27–March 5 data showed a 62.4% approval rating.
Milei has denied promoting Libra, claiming he merely “spread the word” about the token in a February 14 X post.
The Libra (LIBRA) token surged to a $4.6 billion market cap before collapsing 94% hours later.
Fraud lawsuits allege that Milei’s endorsement contributed to the pump-and-dump scheme.
Opposition parties have called for impeachment, though efforts remain stalled.
Despite the scandal, Milei’s La Libertad Avanza party leads polls ahead of October’s elections with 36.7% support, compared to Unión por la Patria’s 32.5%.
Economic concerns persist: only 43% believe Milei has controlled inflation, while 63% oppose his push for a new IMF loan.
The mixed polling reflects ongoing tensions between Milei’s libertarian policies and public skepticism amid the Libra fallout.
“The change in tone and evaluation of the government is consolidating as more and more problematic fronts appear on the political agenda,” Zuban Córdoba’s analysis concluded.
