GPT-5 coming in months with O3 tech integration.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that GPT-5 is expected to be released in a matter of months, integrating various technologies, including o3.
Before GPT-5, OpenAI will release GPT-4.5, internally known as Orion, described as the "last non-chain-of-thought model."
According to Altman's posts on X (formerly Twitter) on February 12, OpenAI aims to unify its o-series and GPT-series models.
The goal is to create systems that utilise all available tools and determine when extended reasoning is needed, enhancing their utility across a wide array of tasks.
GPT-5 will be released as a system that integrates a lot of OpenAI's technology, including o3, within both ChatGPT and its API.
The o3 model, OpenAI's "reasoning model," is designed to fact-check itself.
OpenAI released o3-mini on January 31 to enhance reasoning capabilities, particularly in mathematics, coding, and scientific analysis.
While Altman didn't provide exact release dates for GPT-4.5 or GPT-5, he indicated GPT-4.5 would arrive in weeks and GPT-5 in months.
Altman noted that free ChatGPT users will have unlimited chat access to GPT-5 at the standard intelligence setting.
Plus subscribers will have access to GPT-5 at a higher level of intelligence, and Pro subscribers at an even higher level.
